What are Community Groups?
Community Groups are multiple small groups of people (ideally 6-12) meeting together regularly to develop authentic relationships while living out the Christian faith together.

What kind of Community Groups are there?
All of the groups are Bible-study based, ranging from men’s groups to couples groups to singles groups.  The following is a sample of our CommUnity groups:  all men’s group, all women’s group, singles – never married, 20-30 something group, youth groups, couples groups, couples with no children, senior adult groups, singles again groups, support groups, couples with teens.  (Different groups will be started based on interest and needs.)

Why should I join a Community Group?

So you will become connected to others and joyfully grow in your spiritual life.

Once I’ve attended a group, do I have to stay in the same group?

No.  We seek to have grace-filled groups that want you to stay connected, but understand if you don’t.  Let your group leader help you find another group or contact us at 479-452-1481 to connect with another group.

What happens in Community Group meetings?
People in the group meet together primarily in homes for discussion, sharing, support, encouragement, prayer, and FUN!  Depending on your group, you will spend time on the topic or interest of the group, and also have time to socialize and get to know others better.

How long do Community Groups meet and when do they meet?

Most groups meet together for about 1 ½ to 2  hours on a weekly basis, but this can vary depending on the nature of the group.  There are groups meeting every night of the week at various times in various locations.  Groups may take short breaks during holiday seasons and summer.

How can I join a Community Group?
To find a group, ask people you know that go to church with you, or contact us at 479-452-1481.

What about child care?
Each group addresses this issue as needed.  Ask the group facilitator about child-care provisions.

What is a Community Group facilitator?

A Community Group facilitator is someone who guides the small-group discussions.  He or she is a member of the church, in the membership process, or have been approved by the pastoral ministerial staff, and received Community Group leader training.  We encourage facilitators to share Community Group responsibility with others.

Can I facilitate a Community Group?
You can facilitate a Community Group if you have a desire in your heart to share the small-group experience with others.  You do not have to be a teacher or leader, just someone willing to invest the time needed to facilitate discussion and care for others.  We can help you choose a comfortable format and show you the options for materials to use in your Community Group.  A facilitator must be in agreement with the vision, values, and pastoral leadership of East Side Baptist Church.  (Honest conversation with the pastoral leadership about our vision and values is encouraged.)

What is a Community Group apprentice?

A Community Group apprentice is someone who is a facilitator in training.  They are learning to facilitate by observation, instruction, and practice within a Community Group under a facilitator’s leadership.
